When the blood of dragons fuels technology, but using the blood at all is completely illegal.
In the Impervious series, we start in Florida, following Ven Yashke, a boy genius who's just been accepted to Harvard medical on a full-ride scholarship. Everything seems to be going great until his parents die in a terrible crash not far from his home. The details about the accident seem fishy, but nobody is willing to hear him out.
That's when a strange woman visits his home, offering him information if he takes a job with her. Against his better judgement, he accepts the job, but this takes him to another world. One that he's been to before...
On the world of Orund, the dragon overlords where overthrown 200 years ago, and everything to do with dragons is considered evil, even though it was discovered that the blood of dragons has some... unique qualities. It can fuel technology. Not only that, but one doctor decides to try using it in transfusions on people. Not only does it work, but for those subjects who survived the test, it makes it so that they adapt to anything that doesn't kill them, effectively making them stronger.
And Ven's job? It's to help take down this facility performing these illegal tests.
